How much is a Fisher-Price Little People set worth?

Little People changed from wood and paper to chunky plastic. The model number on the playset, and which figures are still in it, decide the object.

Short answerA Fisher-Price Little People set is named by the model number and the figures still in it, not by any small person. Wood, early plastic, and the later chunky body are different eras. A missing figure changes the sale. Compare sold listings of that number. A photo of one face cannot inventory the bag.

Fisher-Price Little People are the small figures that came with a playset: a school bus, a house, a garage, a barn. The figures are not one toy across sixty years. Early ones were wood or cardboard with a lithographed paper wrap. Then came solid wood bodies, wood bodies with plastic heads, and all-plastic bodies, across the 1960s and 1970s, not on one clean day for every figure. The sets were sold as Play Family. In 1991 Fisher-Price introduced larger, wider figures, often called chunky, after the small bodies became a choking worry. By the mid-1990s the figures had grown arms, legs, and fuller faces. A wood peg person, a 1970s plastic person, a chunky figure, and a modern little person with limbs are four searches.

The set is the model number on the base or the litho, plus the figures that belong to it. One loose dad is not the bus. Sesame Street figures, made under license starting in the mid-1970s, are a different cast. Xavier Roberts’s handmade dolls were also nicknamed Little People. Those are cloth Cabbage Patch sculptures, not these figures. This page will not price a figure. It will tell you to photograph the bottom of the set, count the people, and compare sold listings of that model number in that completeness. The older small figures are a known choking size. They are a collector’s object, not a toy to hand to a small child.

What should you look for?

What the figure is made of
Lithographed paper on wood or cardboard, solid wood head and body, wood body with a plastic head, or all plastic. A wood body is earlier than an all-plastic body of the same character. Say the materials you can see. Paint loss on a face is condition. Do not repaint it and call the face original.
The model number
On the bottom of the playset, stamped or molded, or printed on a litho. Some bases also carry a small date code. Photograph it. “School bus” is a shape. The number is the set. If the number is worn off, say worn off and show the bus anyway.
Which figures are present
Count heads. A family set that is missing the dog is a set missing the dog. Do not fill the gap with a later chunky figure and call it complete. Chunky figures do not fit the story of a wood-body set, and they often do not fit the old accessories either.
The later body
A short wide body with no real limbs is the chunky redesign. A figure with arms and legs is the later child. Both can say Fisher-Price on the foot. The mark proves the maker. The silhouette proves the era you are allowed to claim. Modern playsets are new toys. Comp them with new toys.

What moves the price?

The set, not the vibe
Sold listings follow the model number and whether the figures and the cardboard are there. A played-with bus with two people is that bus. A sealed box is a different product, and the complete-in-box note is the standard. Do not borrow a sealed price for a loose garage-sale bag.
Figure material
Wood-head figures and all-plastic figures of the same set number can both be correct for different years. They are not identical comps. If you do not know which year the materials changed for this exact figure, describe the wood or the plastic and stop. A catalog year you cannot show is a year you do not type.
Damage and smell
Chewed hands, a broken axle, a missing roof, marker on a litho, and a mildew smell. Some buyers want play wear. Nobody wants a surprise. A cracked plastic head is damage. A faded paper wrap is condition. Say both.
The wrong Little People
A Cabbage Patch soft sculpture, a modern licensed figure with a movie face, and a bag of mixed chunky people are not a Play Family set. Sort them. One good wood figure pulled out of a bag is how you avoid selling it as filler.

Where can you sell it?

eBay
Model number, materials, a count of the figures, and the broken part in the title. Photos of the bottom and of every figure’s face. A bag of common plastic people may not clear a fee. Lot those, or sell the one figure you can name and keep the rest as toys.
Local
Right for a bulky garage, a musty house, and a partial set a parent will use. Say that the older small figures are not for toddlers. A parent who wants the chunky ones is a different buyer. Do not mix the bags.
Keep and play
A complete later set you will give a child is a normal used buy, under a new set, if the pieces are the safe size. The wood figures stay on a shelf. The journal’s buying-used note is the comparison with new. This page is the count.

What can a photo settle?

The whole playset, the model number on the bottom large enough to read, every figure from the front, and one figure from the side so wood versus plastic and chunky versus limbed is obvious. Worth can call a bus a Little People bus. It cannot inventory the bag, read a worn number, or tell a wood head from a plastic head in a soft group shot.

What else do people ask?

Are wooden Little People worth more than plastic?
They are earlier, and they are a different comp. Earlier is not an automatic multiple. A chewed wood figure is still chewed. Compare sold listings of that figure or that set number in the same material. A chunky plastic figure is a 1990s toy, not a 1960s one.
What is a chunky Little People figure?
The larger, wider body Fisher-Price introduced in 1991 so the small figures would be harder for a child to choke on. It is not the wood peg person, and it is not the later figure with arms and legs. Title the silhouette you have.
One figure was in the box. Is the set complete?
Only if that set came with one figure. Most of them did not. Count against the model, or say you do not know and list the count you have. A school bus with two people is a bus with two people.
